THEORY TEST

You will have to take and pass the motorcycle theory test before applying for the practical riding test unless

· You already hold a full licence in another motorcycle category

· You have passed a two part moped test since 1st July 1996

The theory test is computer based and tests your knowledge and understanding of both riding theory and hazard perception.

 

There are various training aids to prepare you for the test including The Official DSA Theory Test for Motorcyclists available on CD Rom or as a book and of course an up to date copy of The Highway Code, all available from most good book stores

Providing you are at least 17 years old you may take lessons and your practical riding test on a 125cc learner legal motorcycle. (max 14.4bhp)

 

Upon passing the test you will obtain a restricted motorcycle licence to ride machines up to 33bhp for a period of 2 years.

 

After the restriction period has elapsed your licence will be automatically upgraded to a full unrestricted motorcycle licence.

 

For those who pass the test on a machine with an automatic gearbox, their licence will show a category restriction (code 78) which means they are only licenced for automatic motorcycles.

 

For the restricted licence training & test we use the new Yamaha YBR 125cc motorcycle.
